After visiting Bhaja caves we came back to the house. It gave me time to charge the battery for the next trip and also get the backup battery. We decided to visit the Lohagad fort nearby.
Lohagad is 11 Kms trek from Malavli. You walk the same route to Bhaja caves but bypassing the caves, you walk to the fort of Lohagad. However, looking at the time we had in our hand and the enthusiasm with which we walked we decided to take the shorter route. Cars can travel to the foot of the fort and then its just a matter of walking 300+ stairs to the fort.
The trip to Bhaja caves had already exhausted us and we decided to rest a while. The break turned out to be a longer one when we realized that we had spent lots of time lying around. We still had to have our lunch.
Searching for a lunch spot, we traveled to Lonavla town and searched for an appropriate place to eat. By the time we finished our lunch, it was already 3:30 AM and by the time we took the drive to the fort, it was already 5:30 PM. In a couple of hours it would be dark. We had wasted too much time idling away at home as we realized this later in the fort
The fort seen as we approach it by road. The photo taken from the moving car and hence is not clear at the edges but the colors are just as I want it!
The great plains below. It was amazing that we hadn’t climbed much and almost reached a good height. Kudos to MJ and TA who maneuvered the cars on the treacherous roads.
The board at the entrance of the fort describing the fort’s history and its structure. An important fort of Chatrapathi Shivaji, it was used to keep the treasures of Shivaji Raje. The fort changed hands many times during and before Shivaji Maharaj
A view of the Pawna dam from the fort.
I am not entirely sure but at the background is another fort Visapur fort. My colleague resting on the stairs before taking the climb again.
The Ganesh Darwaza, or the main gate of the fort. Finally after a lot of huffing and puffing from my side, I finally managed to reach the door of the fort.
nice article š
great function!!
What is the route from Lonavala till the base of Lohagad? ie Lohagad wadi
@Rushikesh : take the route from Purohit sweets in Lonavala towards the Shivaji statue in main bazaar, ask for the pawne dam route and go for it. Before Pawne dam is the road going towards Lohagad village, check for the signs otherwise you will miss and reach PAwne dam.
The road is till the foot of Lohagad fort, ideally good for bikes and SUV’s, slightly rough, not recommended for low clearance vehicles. Check with the local people before taking your vehicle.
