“Stupid” She got up from the comfortable sofa as she walked up to the kitchen
“What did I do now?” I was totally confused switching off the television.
“Not you! The movie” There was a tinge of frustration in her voice “So mushy, so stupid”
“I thought you liked it” I walked up to the bedroom to get ready to sleep
“And you too” She walked in the bedroom
“Me? what?” I was still confused. Most men are.
“You are stupid. Enjoying such mushy stories.”
“I thought you liked it” I tried to defend myself…again
“Come on! It was intended to be mushy and a real chick-flick”
“You are a chick…..” I whispered in my defence
“Don’t you start” She warned “And you smiling like a dork at those scenes”
She had noticed
“I did not” My feeble defence raised a voice again
“Oh! I was watching you!” She had proof “Smiling as if you were a part of the movie. I know you thought yourself as the hero there”
I smiled sheepishly! She was right. I did enjoy feel-good “stupid” romantic movies and she knew it too
“If you would have told me, I would have switched” I tried the last attempt to defend myself
“I was just watching you and waiting” was she really angry “When you will switch. All this singing on the mountains and all those weepy “I love you”
“What about those?” I asked as I switched off the light as the room engulfed in darkness
“It doesn’t happen” She retorted “Life is not a sweet love story all the time. Its about bills and salary and the commute to office and the loan payments and the tax saving and office politics……There are no love stories”
“Ok! Ok! Next time just ask and I will switch” I had to stop her ranting
“You better” I though I heard a small laugh as she won her battle…for now.
“Now go to sleep.” I tried to close my eyes “By the way, you told me to get the blue saree from the laundry for the big meeting tomorrow. I had put in the wardrobe.”
“Really?” She seemed a little surprise “Thanks!"
“You didn’t forget!” Was it appreciating or sarcastic “Thanks for remembering”
She slowly slid her body against me before planting a kiss on my cheeks. She put her leg on me and put her hand over me pulling me closer as she prepared to drift into a sleep
“I love you” She planted a kiss on my cheeks again
I pulled her closer. She was wrong
Love stories do exists!
Note: Loosely based on a dream and a conversation with would-be-wife!
