Pathankot is quite a unique town. Its the gateway to Jammu and Kashmir, to Himachal Pradesh and to Punjab and our group travelled to all three location. The first day, we went to Amritsar from Pathankot, then to Dalhousie and then 2 of my friends took their train from Jammu.
Pathankot is a small town and one of the biggest military base in South Asia. We had alighted at Chakki Bank which is around 2.5 Kilometer from Pathankot. Actually Pathankot and Chakki Bank are two station in the same city. Although being the center point for many destination, Pathankot does not offer many tourist attraction. When we asked the Hotel we stayed in about what to see in Pathankot, he had no idea what to suggest.
Pathankot is near from major tourist attractions. Pathankot was our stop during going and coming from Dalhousie. We stayed in the same hotel both times. Pathankot is a very small town although Google says that it is the 5th most populated town of Punjab. You see more army men all over the town.
The Chakki Bank station where we alighted from Mumbai. There is only one hotel near this station with very few people near the station. There were many residential areas a little far away from Chakki bank. When we searched for accommodation in Chakki Bank, we found the hotel price a little steep. So we enquired in a dhaba who advised us to go to Pathankot where there were many lodges and small hotels.
The Pathankot junction – Many trains bypass Pathankot because its a junction and trains have to disconnect the engine and change the position to the last coach. Most train prefer the Chakki bank station as it bypasses the Pathankot Junction. When we hired a jeep to Amritsar, the official taxi union here was charging double the amount of normal rented jeeps.
The streets of Pathankot as seen from the balcony of our Hotel, Hotel Tourist. The picture was taken early morning. By peak hours, the area resembled a small Mumbai street packed with vehicles
A bullock cart with all green grass crosses us in the morning.
The public transport – A rickshaw bigger than the rickshaw in Mumbai parked at Pathankot station. A cycle standing nearby
A closer look at the Rickshaw. The rickshaw owners decorate the rickshaw to distinguish themselves from the other rickshaw owners. Saw few of them on the roads.
The railway mascot at the Pathankot station
Sex sells – I found many such clinics around Pathankot. Every few shops they would sell sleeping bags, woolen clothes and answer to every embarrassing problem you have. They can cure everything! Doesn’t that model bear a resemblance to Priyanka Chopra
We even had Dr Bengali renting out a place in our hotel.
