The love for music is universal. Almost everybody likes some form of music. Over the years, I have loved a lot of songs. Somewhere down the road, many of these songs have become hits. I don’t have a favorite song as such but I have a whole list. Being a hit means that a song is loved by many people. Also it means that it is heard more number of times than normal. I have found myself falling out of love to these overplayed songs so much so that I wished they had never become such a hit.
And there are some songs which never become hit for some reason of the other. The lyrics are good, the song is good, the singer has sung it well but then it does not work with the people. Over a period of time, it gets lost in time somewhere and when you hear it once in a blue moon, its bliss. These songs could have been hits and for some reasons, they never were.
This is about those songs;
The missed hits, The unsung hits
Indians like to complain about Bollywood and the usual fare it dishes out but they secretly like crap movies or slapstick comedies which does not require one to think about the logic or the story. They like big stars and popular music. By popular music I mean music which hits you through the TV channels 24 hours a day. Nothing wrong with that as movies are a form of entertainment and people watch movies for a break from their mundane life.
Unfortunately only big stars or movies with a big promotional budget gets noticed and that makes us miss the small surprises that the movies offers us. Movies that have a good story, small actors and no budget to promote the movie.
“STOP” is not a classic. Its a good movie and I found it quite entertaining. Also it does not have the happy ending that love stories have and many people would not have liked it. The plus point about STOP is the music. It had a beautiful ghazal by Jagjit Singh and a few fun number. Although the music and the movie were good, the music did not blend with the stories as easily.
The song “Meri Kahani” was picturized on Rocky Khanna and Dia Mirza.
The song shows two separated lover meeting after a long time. The song had this feeling of being close to someone and still not able to be with that person. A sense of desperation and helplessness. Beautiful lyrics, good music and good picturization
