Today is 30th April, the most important day in Netherlands. Its the birthday of mother of the present queen. Its called the Queen’s Day.
When the street is taken over by pedestrians
When beer flows like water
When people just have fun and totally freak out
When the necklines go deeper
When the streets are packed with people
When you see orange all around…. then
It must be 30th April in Amsterdam…. The Queen’s day.
This is my third Koninginnedag here. Although we moved out quite late, it was just moving around and feeling the spirit.
Orange dominates the day totally. No other color is as important as orange here. A boat with people dancing around. everyone in orange.
It was just a sea of people. The Liedsplien square in Amsterdam was filled with people. We started to cross the street but looking at the crowd gave up.
Stages are erected everywhere and live music is played. People just dance around having a jolly good time
Vondelpark (pronounced as Fondel park), a big park in the center of the city had people just whiling away their time after a hard day partying.
Those who cannot afford to build big stages still take their music to people by playing on the street. They earn quite well too.
She was not supposed to be in the picture. Behind her is the famous Holland Casino. By the time the picture was taken she was in the frame. Not my fault!
Musicians playing on the street. Watch the guy sitting down and playing on a wooden box.
