I started blogging on 4th October 2003. I still remember sitting in a cyber café, one of the rare Saturday’s when I had a holiday. I think I went to the café to check my office mails or something. Those days, office meant a lot to me and most of the time was spent in the office. Work was the center of my existence those days and although getting a holiday was good, I did not have anything to do. More ever my friends were limited to office colleagues. So spending time with my friends would be discussing office matters again. My childhood friends were working in different companies and I did not have time to meet them because of the job. It was kind of vicious cycle.
Then on that fateful Saturday, I found this link from MSN. This was much before MSN had “Spaces”. I read the rules and regulations, made sure that it was not one of the chatting thing, or make-a-friend site and created my id. In another 15 minutes, I had posted my first post. For me, it was like a personal diary at that time. Come to think of it, it is still a personal diary but one which everyone reads.
That site worked for sometime. It was fun to read other people views and stories. I was hooked. Although a small group at that time, bloggers knew virtually each other quite well until disaster stuck and the site went down. For days, the site was down but then when it came up for a couple of days, I copied all my post to Blogspot but lost all my comments.
I was ok with Blogspot but I could not categorize my posts according to topics so finally moved to my present home.
I was just going through my past posts and then it looks amazing that I have come so far. 300 Posts is no mean achievement. All the post except 2 and the 11 written by Monica are actually written by me. This means I have written 287 posts on my own. That’s simple statistics for you.
In school I was not so good in languages and science and maths and social science and PT. Leaving the above topics, I was pretty good in everything. I hated language papers because the marks depended on what the teacher’s thoughts. If he/she found it good, then I would get good marks. The biggest problem was essays. With bad grammar and spelling mistakes, I never scored in essays. Again with topics like “Diwali Vacations”, there was nothing to get excited about. If I had to write about diwali vacation, it would be a single sentence ;
“During Diwali vacations, we burst crackers, eat sweets and played a lot. Happy Diwali.”
Blogs are also a collection of sort of essays and 300 of them mean I have actually come a long way. The only difference is the topics here are the topics which I choose and not given to me by anybody.
I always say that my blog is the crap from my head, the conversation I have with myself. The topics have ranged from being very personal to my attempt of being humorous. I have tried my hand at fiction and then writing something totally irrelevant. I have looked back at my life and at things and incidents with nostalgia. I have written about cities I love and written about cities I have visited. I have written about movie and events. I have written about people and friends and family and parents . I have revealed more about myself here than anywhere else.
I have people agreeing with me and some who don’t but then I have some who visited me everyday. I am thankful to them for keeping me going. I still write for myself but I would lie if I said that I am not happy by the comments I receive even though I have been lazy in commenting on other’s blog. Its good to be appreciated.
As I go through my posts, it’s difficult to pick a favorite. I normally don’t read what I have written but one day I would. I haven’t deleted anything or don’t change anything in a post. One day, I would read all these posts again, think about them and think why I wrote them in the first place. These posts are the moments of my life, moments I would go back to, walk with them, smile at them, cry with them or just remember them.
So after almost three years of blogging and a total of 300 posts, some people suggest me to keep going and some say it’s a total waste of time. I agree with both. As I say, the blog has got a life of its own. I doubt if I would stop in the near future at least.
Until the next big landmark, keep visiting.
