Mumbai does not have a non-peak traffic now. Everyday its bumper to bumper traffic but today was different. Today the Rickshaws in Mumbai went on a 72 hours strike and the roads changed. The road were empty today. Almost no traffic jams, no honking and the best, it took me just 40 minutes to reach office. Normally it takes me more than an hour to reach office stuck in long traffic queues. I think the people were better prepared and did quite well without the rickshaw although evening saw big queues outside office and bus stands
Its times like this, I wish I could carry my camera but still I could use my Mobile phone. By evening the strike was off.
S. V. Road outside Borivali station at 7:45 AM. This road is blocked in the morning with office goers, vehicles and passengers from long distant trains. I could walk in the middle of the road and did not get honked.
The space outside Borivali East. The blocks of stone is for the rickshaw stand and sometimes its just become difficult to get to the road crossing the countless rickshaws surrounding the exit. Today it was different.
The Western Express Highway did have traffic today too but just imagine a traffic which is 2-3 times this one. Lots of honking
The road in MIDC opposite to Hotel Tunga International at 9:00 AM. This is the peak hour. Notice that no vehicle for a long distance. Notice the man crossing the road. Normally the traffic is such that he won’t be able to cross unless he makes the cars/rickshaw stop for him. Today he walked freely
Borivali East at 7:00 PM. The strike was just called off and rickshaw were back on the road making their presence felt. Tomorrow it will be back to the traffic jams and consistent honking
This has nothing to do with the strike. It was just that I caught the setting sun and did get time to catch it on camera. Just like that. Even with the busy, running life, we do realize sunset is still beautiful

Too bad the strike the strike ended well before the 72 hrs mark ! Btw, what were thier demands ? Bhaada double ?
Nahi re! They don’t want the electronic meter. Too much maintenance they say from water, dust and theft! We say more transparency

Just tweeted this link (http://twitter.com/DDeeps/statuses/800329289). A picture paints a thousand words and what better way to express how much better the roads were. And the sunset- simply soothing. I caught one today and felt very happy! Great presence of mind to take pixs and upload to blog.
Thank You Deepa for the link.
I couldn’t miss the rare opportunity when the streets of Mumbai look deserted
