Bhoole Bisare Geet - 1 - Mujhe Jaan Na Kahoo

The love for music is universal. Almost everybody likes some form of music. Over the years, I have loved a lot of songs. Somewhere down the road, many of these songs have become hits. I don’t have a favorite song as such but I have a whole list. Being a hit means that a song is loved by many people. Also it means that it is heard more number of times than normal. I have found myself falling out of love to these overplayed songs so much so that I wished they had never become such a hit.
And there are some songs which never become hit for some reason of the other. The lyrics are good, the song is good, the singer has sung it well but then it does not work with the people. Over a period of time, it gets lost in time somewhere and when you hear it once in a blue moon, its bliss. These songs could have been hits and for some reasons, they never were.
This is about those songs;
The missed hits, The unsung hits

Anubhav is a black and white movie directed by Basu Bhattacharya in 1971. Although color in Indian movies came long back before this movie, Basu Bhattacharya decided to shoot it in black and white. It has a slow pace compared to a normal Hindi movie but its not an art-house film. It has 4 songs, 3 of which are sung by Geeta Dutt. This was probably her last film. All the songs in the movie are very good.
“Mujhe Jaan na Kaho” is a song sung by Geeta Dutt and picturized on Sanjeev Kumar and Tanuja. I like the picturization as the soft voice of Geeta Dutt croons in a rainy night as the wife teases her husband. The song does not have heavy music. In fact it can hardly be heard.
Then there are beautiful lyrics by Gulzar where he plays with the word “Jaan”. Not only the particular song but the other three songs like “Mera Dil Jo Mera Hota”, “Phir Kahin koi Phool Khila” and “Koi Chupke se aake” are real gems. I always wondered how these songs were shot. I was surprised to find that my favorite song “Koi Chupke se aake” is played on the radio in the background during an emotional scene.

Meri Jaan Meri Jaan Murgi ke Ande
Gulzar at his best….
Yes, This is indeed Gulzaar at his best. Funny, I was planning to write about the movie and ‘..Chupake se Aake’ on my website this weekend. Keep it up.

I visit your blog only occasionally and have commented once on the kya dialog hai! That was fun and this is just so nostalgic…. truly lovely songs. Geeta Dutts voice is yummm…I know these four songs practically by heart - heard it so many times growing up- my parents had it as part of their (now fashioned) many vinyl records collection. Later saw Anubhav too sometime on TV - the DD days- so anyway it was black & white- and it was just as you have said. Reading this post was such a nice voice from the past.

I heard it quite late in my life when I was searching for Basu Bhattacharya. It was difficult finding the DVD for the movie. Keep Visiting

btw, I realised after I posted comment that I had missed the one word-’old’- while saying (now old-fashioned ) vinyl records! Thanks and look forward to PFC too. Actually that is how I landed here this time. I googled for Roti, kapda aur makaan and got the post by Pankaj. Thanks again!
Awesome song!!
I just love it. tanuja looks prettier than her daughter and its strange to see a B/W video of 1971 movie
It is my favorite song. I was very pleased to see the video as well. This is a marvelous movie (as all Basu Bhatacharya movies) simple story but very well directed. Its a shame people donot make simple realistic movies now-a-days.
