I get Star News and NDTV 24×7 in Amsterdam. Pranoy Roy’s 24×7 still retains the edge over other channels atleast over Star News. After NDTV separated from Star network, Star introduced revamped Star News.
Due to lack of choice for News channel, I end up watching Star News most of the times. The more I watch Star News the more I am convinced that Star News delivers news which can be termed as rubber band news.
Its kind of easy. you take a news and then stretch it, mentioning the same thing again and again. Its stretching 5 minutes news to 15 minutes and feeling the time.
Consider this. The day there was the eclipse and Star News calls up some Panditji who is continuously adjusting his clothes unaware of the camera being focused on him. For more than 30 minutes he goes on about the eclipse, explaining how the planet position affect the life of the common man. Then they took calls from viewers who told them their birth date and each time he came up with a standard answer “That he needs to know their Hindu sunsign”. What was the time for the whole program was beyond my understanding. I went channel surfing and when I came back the man was mouthing the same words or were they repeating the same thing again and again.
He also went ahead and predicted that the Indian Cricket team’s star were not favorable to a win. So when the whole India was hoping against hope of an Indian win, Star News already knew. If only the BCCI had asked panditji first, why to waste so much money on our players and why to raise hope for all Indians.
Then there was a public analysis of India - Bangladesh match held in some mall in Jaipur. The anchor kept on repeating how he was in the mall and how they were discussing the India - Bangladesh match. The way the anchor repeated the same sentences so many times that he easily stretched the 15 mins program to 30 minutes.
Star News needs to understand that it is a news channel and not like it sister channel Star Plus. It shows news and not soaps. The news has to be crisp and short and not stretched like the daily soaps. Star News was much better when NDTV managed it. Now it has become pathetic! NDTV 24×7 still presents the news better.

So true! There was another channel which used to show some junk news. It would just go an attack some ministry guy and would wait for hours outside his house! ( all this live!) It would basically try to do a “tehelka type” attack. but would fail miserably and make our life miserable too! i cant’ remember the name of this channel!
Star news … Aaj Tak .. in fact nost of the hindi news channels.. sadly .. indulge into loads of crap.. useless informations and all kind of supersitions with pundit rashi graha nakshtra and what not. But if you get star news .. try watching a program called “kaun hai” hehe I like ghost stroies .. and its fun . .in India its on air at 11:30 pm friday night .. won’t know about your part of the world.
Egjactly … I agree. STAR News would be one of the most boring of all the numerous boring Indian News channels. They just show some rubbish about some stupid happening somewhere - and then they keep repeating it hour after hour. Rubberband news — nice term.
