Yesterday went to see another movie in the theaters. Since the last month seen a lot of movies in the theatre just because I have opted for the scheme run by multiplexes in Amsterdam. So I have seen movies which I would normally would not pay to watch. Among such movies are the so called independent movies. I have found some of these movies quite interesting.
Anyways, Yesterday I went to see first timer David Slade’s “Hard Candy”. Hard Candy comes from Internet slang for underage girl. The story is of a 14 year old girl who chats with a much older man on the internet. The first scene starts with their meeting.
She suspects him to be a pedophile and he is a photographer. They go to his house and she drugs him. Then she ties him and searches his house to search clues against him. The film never tells about the background and motives of the two. The film looks like a good psychological drama until here. The second half of the film, the girl ties the man to a table and then tortures him to ultimately perform a castration operation on him.
By now I was feeling hot. The operation was not actually shown but the dialogs and action were more than suggestive with some visuals. I had covered myself with a jacket to protect myself from the theatre’s AC. By the time the operation started, I was feeling hot and uncomfortable. At one moment I could not take it anymore and I understood that sitting there for any more time was not good for me. I got up from the seat. Fortunately we were sitting near the door. As the theatre was full, I guess a man was standing at the door watching the movie. He could not find a seat in the dark.
I was going blank by this time. I pushed the door and came out of the hall. I was feeling extremely dizzy and the next moment I know I had collapsed against the wall. I passed out. The next few moments I had completely blanked out. I tried hard to get up realizing in my semi-conscious mind that I was lying on the floor of the cinema. I somehow got up, my head still spinning. Walked to the stairs and holding the railing climbed one floor down to sit in the chairs kept on that floor. My jaws hurt, my head hurt, the spot near my left eye hurt and the most that hurt was below my chin. It was burning. I sat there trying to get hold of myself and I touched my chin to find blood on my hand. I panicked. I called my friend from the movie who till then had no idea what was going on. I was still having some dizziness. Fortunately he had a band-aid with which he covered my wound on the chin. The bleeding reduced and finally stopped after a couple of hours.
It was a good thing that I was not good in biology in my school days and I did not become a doctor. The sight of blood makes me sick although this is the first time I had become unconscious in my life. It was an experience in itself. Anyways its confirmed, that no more blood and gory movies for me. I wouldn’t have gone for this one too but the review did not say anything about the scenes.
So my advice is do not see the movie if you cannot handle blood.
As for me, I am recovering. On the lighter side, If you think about it, I could be making the above up or I teased a girl and her boyfriend trashed me or I drank a lot and passed out. But it sure hurts it a lot

OoOOOOoOoPPppsss.. thats a sad news..
Anyway’s experiences teaches somethings in our life..
But i dunno know y i dont get dizziness or the things which u got when i see blood.. But seriously i dont like blood…..
Oh dear, poor Punds!
Sorry about your accident.
You only stopped bleeding after two hours?! Blimey, that is a lot, isn’t it? Maybe you needed stitches!?
From what I had read/heard about Hard Candy I had the idea that it was a film only for the brave ones, so that excluded me. I didn’t know about the precise details though.
Funny about the AC. It really annoys me when I have to carry a jacket with me in really hot weather because it will be freezing inside the cinema. I just find it senseless!
Anyway, hope you are well now.
Punds, I was like all worried for you until the last line (I am assuming you got beaten up by another guy for approaching his girl lol!)!!!
This is a first, a guy fainting on seeing blood…vi feels very brave!!!
On a serious note…if you did pass out…go to the doctor and make sure its not the onscreen blood that caused it…take care. Or was it no food/no sleep combo**

**sorry for sounding like an absolute “GrandMa”

Its just that I become weak when I see blood. Not the regular blood but I guess Operations and the thought of it makes me go blank.
Monica
The wound was not that big but drops of blood came out regularly but it was not a heavy blood loss as such. I read the reviews about the movie but nowhere it said very graphical operation. I dont like blood and gory movies so haven’t seen “Saw” yet.

[...] The snakes are mostly animation with fierce looking faces for effect and the special effects are good. There are snakes with various sizes and shape including a big Anaconda which is shown swallowing a big fat man. Don’t ask me, I closed my eyes. I did not want to pass out again. [...]
