Monica loves Indian movies like me. She has seen DCH, Sathiya, Lagaan, Swades, Veer-Zarra, Asoka, Taal, DDLJ, Chalte Chalte, Hum Tum, Salaam Namaste and most of the so-called Bollywood blockbusters. She has seen many Shyam Benegal’s movies like Nishant, Ankur, Mandi, Zubeidda, Sardari Begum and Suraj ka Satwan Ghoda mostly in the Indian Film circuit. She has also seen Bandini, Guide, Kagaaz ke Phool and Rukmavati ki Haveli.
If you read it, it does not appear extraordinary for any movie lover to see all those movies. But the fact is that Monica is not Indian. She is a Spaniard which means she comes from Spain though I seriously doubt that. She has seen a lot of Indian movies with English subtitles although as she says that Spaniards do not like movies without Spanish subtitles.
She did not like “DDLJ”. One question which will make me see DDLJ again is, How did Shahrukh know Kajol’s London’s address and then her Indian address when she never exchanged her address. Answers in the comments section please.
She knows much about India and its culture but she still thinks that she knows little. I could challenge that she might be knowing much more than some of our Indians too. She says she is weak in her own culture. She writes long and I mean very long mails to me which I don’t mind but sometimes find it difficult to give long reply. She does not blog because she feels she does not have in her to blog. Looking at her mails, I don’t understand what she does not have? She says that she cannot express herself properly though her emails tell a different story. She does not think she has anything interesting to tell people again which I doubt.
She stays in a Spanish town (Not Madrid). She has a Physics degree but would like to work for the Meteorological department. She is my guide to the Spanish Cinema, although I have to admit that I haven’t seen any. She has read many Indian Authors, which I haven’t done so far. She asks me so many questions about Indian movies that I have to take efforts to find answers for them. But then meeting a fellow movie lover is always a pleasure just like I like reading oz.
She comments on all my post even though they are pathetic in every sense. The only other person who has commented more on my blog is Vi. Sorry if I miss someone else. I guess people like them make me blog more because they appreciate the crap I dish out. So why am I telling about Monica? She is a guest writer on Full2 Faltu for some posts. She is going to report about an Indian Film festival recently held in Spain. I have never been to a film festival and it was a good thing to have a Spanish ‘kudi’ reporting for Full2 Faltu. Its good for my blog’s image. Imagine, me knowing a sexy beautiful Spanish lass.
When I first found her comment on my blog, I smiled at myself. Her name reminded me of the song from “Caravan”, the one with “Monica, Oh my darling”. I told her never to tell her name to an Indian. Most of them would smile or laugh like me. So the post title. No offence meant not I am chedding the kudi. Oye! Maine toh dekha bhi nahi use!
Without much ado, I will let Monica take center stage and give a brief introduction about herself in her own words.

As requested by Punds I will write a bit about this stranger who will be hijacking his blog for a few days. Just in case you get a shock. There is not much of interest to be mentioned really but here we go.
I am a Spaniard living in Spain (what a great beginning, it sounds like a learning English first day course). I know Punds doubts it some times, but it is true, I haven’t got any Indian roots.
Now, what on earth is a Spanish lass doing in Pund’s blog then? That I would like to know myself, but never mind.
I came across Full2 Faltu one day when I was looking for information / reviews / opinions about Mr and Mrs Iyer. Why Mr and Mrs Iyer? Because I had just seen the film and I had liked it so much that I wanted to know what others thought about it too and as many of you might know Punds has written a review on that movie (a wonderful review, by the way).
But… why was I watching Mr and Mrs Iyer, you might wonder. Well, I like watching Indian movies. This, by the way, for those of you who don’t know, is a very difficult hobby to have in Spain because Indian movies are not shown at cinemas (apart from those having an international release such as Fire, Water or Monsoon Wedding and this happens just once in a blue moon). And that is how my liking for this cinema began: my first Hindi film was Monsoon Wedding and as a matter of interest I had to go on my own because no one around was interested in watching it. However, I have known afterwards, that some friends have watched it and they liked it.
Anyway, after watching that film I bought the soundtrack and the DVD and I started finding out about Indian cinema and music. One fine day I discovered there was a little season showing the films Asoka, Saathiya, Dil Chahta Hai and Maachis as an introduction to the Hindi Film Industry (I missed Maachis but could watch the rest of them). I loved Saathiya and DCH and before I could realize it, I was hooked on Indian movies. My knowledge about this film industry has grown “quite a lot” since then and now I know about some films, actors, actresses, directors, singers, composers, etc.
Last week there was an Indian Film Festival held in Madrid called Imagine India.
So the idea of me writing here is that when I told Punds that there was a going to be an Indian film festival in Madrid this month and that I was planning to attend he thought I could be a reporter for Full2 Faltu. I hope he knows what he is doing!
And that is about it really. The only thing that is left to say is that I hope you all like about the festival. I am a guest blogger on Full2 Faltu for a while.

Wow You watch Hindi movies? Me being a Indian don’t have the patients for it
) Will definetly check out post here!

In Hindi movies, Love finds its way wherever on earth you may be
Try out some indian regional films, too. Marathi, Bengali, Malyalam, etc. Some really classy and timeless stuff, that sometimes really goes beyond language.
This is weird. OK, here we go…
Vi, yes, I do watch some when I have the chance to but still know very little about the Hindi Film Industry though.
Ashu, good one, I suppose you are right, couldn’t it be that way in real life too?
Atrakasya, I would love to, but availability is not easy though.
Punds, translate please: “Oye! Maine toh dekha bhi nahi use!”
Dekha as in look? nahi as a no? No clue about the rest though. LOL.
It is not exactly that I didn’t like DDLJ but I was disappointed after all I had heard about it.
[...] Full2 Faltu hosts Monica, a Spanish girl and avowed fan of Bollywood who reports on the Indian Film Festival in Madrid. [...]
Monica,
DDLJ is famous because it was first “NRI * going back to the roots” movie. In general it was well edited and stylishly made (one of the strong points of Yash Chopra school of films) and hence departure from the prevailing style which can be called tacky.
It may sound smartass but watch hindi movie with heart (brain is superfluous here)
* NRI – Non resident Indian (loosely used for Indian diaspora)
“Oye! Maine toh dekha bhi nahi use!”
I (Punds) have not even seen her (that is you) yet !
Regards
Thanks gaurav
I guess you explained it perfectly.
Punds
Gaurav,
I will try. I might fail sometimes though… my brain might interfere…
Thanks for the translations!
“She did not like “DDLJ”. One question which will make me see DDLJ again is, How did Shahrukh know Kajol’s London’s address and then her Indian address when she never exchanged her address. Answers in the comments section please.”
Come on… This is Hindi Cinema – If you like a girl, how difficult is it going to be to find her address… I’ve found guys are very resourceful that way.
Besides, in DDLJ – her friends and his friends are friends… her friends defintely know her London address and would have received the wedding invitation with the indian address…
Of course, all this is assumption
Cheers,
Swapna
[...] Monica has completed five days successfully at Imagine India. She comes on the 6th day to find an empty conference for a film-maker long forgotten. You can find the first day here and here, Second Day, Third Day, Fourth Day and Fifth Day. [...]
Swapna, you have convinced me…
I might have to give it a second watch one of these days.
Monica
Geez, my name is also Monika, except with a “k”. lolz But most people are used to “Monica”. Oh yeahh, “Monica! O my darling!” haha I hear that so much. Even today, just before I was searching, someone asked me, “Isn’t that a nice song?” I’ve never watched the movie or the song, but I’ve heard that just one line so many times.
I’m a big fan of Indian movies and watched almost all the new ones. As an Indian, I guess it runs in the blood. I have to say that your writing is amazing. Though I only read some of it (sorry haven’t read the whole thing), it is really captivating. By the way, i don’t usually write this long.
I’m just visiting and probably won’t come back to your site again. But keep up the great work. Good luck!

Hi Monica or should i say Hola. I must say i am also impressed by ur knowledge of hindi Cinema. I spend a lot of time in spain Allhaurin el grande in Marbella. I am a distributor and I distribute bollywood movies in cinemas across U.K (where iam originally from).
I have begin to notice a lot of people are talking about spaniards taking a keen inbtrest in Bolly films. I found that a bit trange at first but reading uir article amazed me.
I was wondering if you could help me find out the cinemas that will play bollywood films and which parts of spain is good for them if have them subtitled in spainsh or even have them dubbed. I have a new film coming out very soon called SHIVA by Ram Gopal Varma. I would very much like to experiment with that movie in spain.
Do definately reply to me please my email is Alikhalid@geastone.com
Many Thanks
Ali
[...] MonicaShe is Spanish but I don’t believe her. She watches Hindi movies. She understands Indian classical dance. After me, she has the highest number of post on Full2 Faltu and she has the highest number of comments on Full2 Faltu. A sweet person by heart, she is very soft on my posts. She quotes my post and points out the part she liked. When I read the sentences again, they feel different and I feel great. She reported an Indian fim festival in Spain for this blog. She started a blog and then shut it down. Till date, she is the second person I know who is not an Indian reader. The other one is a Chinese, I guess. I imagine her to be nice sexy Spanish gal. [...]
hei!!!! I’m a Spanish girl too, interested in bolly films as Monica… but my english is so poor and I can’t understand most of things… Do you know anywhere I can find bolly films subtitled into Spanish? Could you help me please? I would like to download some of them to watch at them, but… being able to know what is happening!! thanks a lot!! My mail is irenepldue@hotmail.com

Guess what!! First I have to introduce my nationality because a lot of people are doing so.
I am an Indian from India. This is a dialog that is directly lifted from a David Dhawan film (slapstick comedies…..none of them ever had an international release…but there is an actor in the lead role…who is awesome…..consider him better than Jim Carrey or A Sandler in comic timing and dialog delivery).
I am a film lover…..I mean what else can u love when you are an expat in a country where it is raining like hell in winter and your car is down in mechanic’s garage. And I am single
I like to watch movies in all sorts of languages (with subtitles off course). A question to “Darling Monica” (I too love that song) -> can we have a English language blog where Spanish movies can be recommended? I can recommend movies in other languages.
I have a friend in Barcelona, he is a student there. But apparently he takes beaches and pubs too seriously to watch any movies. Damn fellow!!!

Sid
