Continuing with the peep into the past, here’s the third part of the bhule bisare serial. (Come to think of it there was Bhule Bisare geet on radio)
The list is getting bigger
Aaisa bhi hota hai
A serial telling stories of ghost and strange occurrences. Something like that. Really don’t remember much.
Honee Anhonee
Belongs to the “Qile ka rahasya” category. Dealt with Reincarnation and strange phenomenon. Supposedly based on true stories.
Katha Saagar, Ek Kahani and Darpan
The concept was simple. Dramatize a short story of a famous author. That’s all. But the story they picked and the way it was presented was too good. One of the serial had a short introduction to the author too. I don’t remember which one.
ShowTheme
The hindi film industry was not called bollywood then. The host used to select a theme and then show all scenes related to the theme.
Singhasaan Bateeshi
The story of the throne of Raja Vikramaditya which has 32 statues in the throne. Each statue tells a story. I think it had to do something with another king who wants to sit on the throne but the throne prevent him saying that he is not as worthy as Raja Vikramaditya. Total timepass and lot of moralistic story
Vikram aur betaal
Arun Govil playing Vikram long before he played Ram in Ramayan. Story of Raja Vikramaditya (I think) who has promised to bring a corpse from the jungle. The corpse tells a story and at the end asks a question. The king answers and then the corpse runs away, actually flys away. The start and end scene shown were same for all stories. We actually memorized the whole scene. “Tu bola, mein chala” “Jawaab de nahi toh mein tere sar ke hazaar tukde kar dunga” The theme song was nothing but Vikram and betaal said a number of times like “Vikram vikram vikram betaal betaal betaal”
Dada Dadi ki kahaniyan
Ashok Kumar and Dina pathak (I think) play dada and dadi respectively. A story with a moral. Featured story of ghost and had liliput in most of the episode. Total Children timepass.
Doosra Kewal
Shahrukh Khan yet again. The serial had shahrukh playing Kewal, a village lad who goes to town and never returns. The story is told as memories of his mother and daughter and the village people. Shahrukh dies trying to prevent his friend becoming a terrorist. The last episode showed his friend coming to Shahrukh’s home and his family accepting him as the second Kewal. Sort of reincarnation of Shahrukh. Hence the name Doosra Kewal or The Second Kewal.
Muzrim Haazir ho.
I had completely forgotten about this. Nutan plays a Bengali bahu. It had the title song “Hun huna hun huna” I think the song music was composed by Bhupen Hazarika (thanks IronMaiden)
Dil daarya
Another one of Shahrukh Khan’s serial. The fact is that Shahrukh acted in many serials before he became a star in movies. Something about two families separated during partition and then getting back. A child from one family is taken care by the other family. A good serial set in Punjab. I think the serial was from Lekh Tandon
Phool Khile hai Gulshan Gulshan
Tabassum! Great. This was when film stars had only the film magazine to talk. TV offered them an opportunity to market themselves. Tabassum used to interview the stars. Hardly half hour. Remember all those shayaris from Tabassum
Kahan gaye Woh Log
Late Sunday Morning drama about heroes of freedom struggle.
Aa Bail Mujhe maar.
A comedy featuring Amol Palekar and Bharti Achrekar (I think). Saturday afternoon flavor. Story of a man who deliberately does things which create problem for himself.
Uddaan
Loosely based on Kiran Bedi, the jailor of Tihar Jailor (I think she was the jailor). Kavita Chaudhury plays a simple girl who struggles and fight to become an IPS officer. It shows the problem she faces in the police force and the society because of being a woman. A very good inspiring serial.

Do you remeber a serial named “Phatichar”?Perhaps Pankaj Kapur was in the serial.
Another serial- I cant remember the name-aired on Sunday morning.it told the story of a village boy coming to the city and living in the garrage of a rich man and falling in love with his daughter. The daughter had a naughty friend….I forgot.Yes I remember the name “Phir Wohi Talash”.
You must remeber another sunday morning fav-”Stone Boy”- a story based in Mauritious.A boy who turned stone in the night …or may be , day…
Great memory: One correction though, in Dada Dadi ki Kahaniyaeen, the role of Dadi was played by Lila Mishra.
Thanks Pooja
Sorry for the mistakes

i am searching for Dada Dadi ki kahaniyan desperately i want to down load can any one tell me where will i get
A few ones not discussed already…….
There was a serial called Appu aur Pappu on Sunday, a story about an elephant and a little boy.
Also for Maharashtrian viewers there use to be a serial called Gotyaa which became really famous. That small boy, Joy Ghanekar who did the role of Gotya- the peculiar thing was that he acted only in that serial I guess and no other serial ever after. We as kids used to think he would go on to become a big star once he grows up, but he never really ventured into acting. I never ever read abt him in newspapers and if u search abt him in google u get all the techno sites, he actually has become a tech geek in the US.
Also at that time in the 80s, apart from DD, there used to be what we used to call “second channel” with very bad signal mostly blurred. Some people used to call it “Dubai TV”. I think it was amongst the first cable channels beamed into India. “second channel” had a very entertaining Japanes kids serial called “Giant Robo”. That was really great stuff even in those days of primitive special effects technology.
Also in probably one of the most earliest instances of real-life stories on Indian TV, there used to be a serial called “Puraskar”- a serial depicting the stories of small chidren who get bravery awards by the President every year(those who are paraded in the republic day parade sitting on elephant) and every episode featured the story of one of those children. I remember roughly the title song which was like “……Miltaa hai Puraskar”. Some children got the awards posthmously. The most heartening part of that used to be the real interview at the end of the serial, in which they used to themselves tell abt the incident. I still remember a very small boy who saved two lives by diving and saving them from being crushed by a incoming train but lost his hand in the process, very confidently narrating the event and saying “maine apni jaan ki parwah naa karte huey apne aap ko jhonk diya aur unki jaan bachayi”….not an iota of bragging there….all simple simply innocense…u know that must have been a script written by his parents or probably elder sibling and the boy may just have mugged it. In case of posthmous awards it used to be the boy’s mother or father or the person whose life the little one saved. It was so so so emotional when they narrated.
The govt was so right in awarding those awards, but these days it never receives the attention it deserves, ppl became more interested in which new jumbo and mega destructive missile is gonna show up this year in the parade.
A bit of a distraction here….but yes the republic/independence day parade also used to be a attraction in those days.
I came to this blog for searching Himgiri Ka Veer
and kudos to you for looking back and listing so many oldies.
hi, does anyone know what was the actual name of the movie/ serial OF HIMGIRI KA VEER.
Thanks
The old sunday’s won’t return. Only one channel but in simple words mother of all. My school used to be closed on Sat and Sun. Sat i remember at after noon Didi’s comedy show and Show Theme. I was lucky to watch Didi’s comedy show last week on a Telugu channel…. And then at 3:45 just for 15 min all bollywood in one show - Show theme. And who could forget Rasna Ad just at the begining of Show Theme. Sundays there was HE MAN and one serial where there were 4 school kids investigating petty crimes, loosely based on famous five. Just forgot the name. Plz help…
I also remember a serial on Science Fiction basically on Time Machine. Again forgot the name.. But the best was Jungle book
When I was a kid I used to hear from my parents that “Old is Gold” now I see how true they are.
Spiderman, Heman, Donald Duck, Glow friends - I used to buy so many label with all cartoon characters on them. Remember Appu Raja I think was the name of the serial where a kid son if a forest police officer has an elephat as his pet. Chandrakanta remember the character Yakku. There was another science fiction serial on Sundays and I think it had something to do with a magical diamond and had Ashwini Bhave in it. There was such a variety of serials and now a days it is just sash and bhahu and vamps and affairs and loads and loads of crying everyday.
There were serials like Srikant I dont remember the story I think it was about a widow and Nukkad and the character Guru, chitrahaar on Wednesdays and the schedule was 08:00 PM to 08:30 PM chitrahaar, then 08:40 PM Hindi me Samachar and then 09:00 PM serial then 09:30 PM another serial and then 10:00 PM News in English – remember two news reporters sharing the news. 10:30 PM World this week by Pranab Roy. Movies on Weekends starting 05:00 PM.
You guys made me emotional…..You took me back to my childhood…. Thank you.
Mogali, Potle baba ke, and Hawa methe tu aja uttar se this was the title song of a cartoon in Hindi, Ooshen, Gaint Robot a kid with a remote control watch to a robot, Sherlock holmes, Famous Five, Aisa bhi hota hai was about people doing un common things it was similar to Guniness World of records but was in Hindi with a cute anchor.
I just remembered the name of the science fiction serial it was jantar mantar - samay ke seema o se bahar, kitna antar kitna nirantar jantar mantar……
Also one more thing about shahrukh khan he used to act in a serial called circus , where he is the circus manager or something, we also had betaal pachisi, chandrakanta, malgudi days, good ole mahabarath and potli baba, jungle book Mowgli
good times does anyone know where to get chandrakanta and malgudi days on vcd?
Hi
I remembered the serials named Jantar Mantar,Stone Boy,Sigma…….Waited desperately for Sundays to come so that I can watch those serials…….
Hi
I used to watch those kids oriented serials as I had passions like kid..But as per to time and tides…I crossed those days but when I remember that shrinks my memories…which is unimaginable..So get nostalgic.
Himgiri Ka Veer Original Name: Flying Fox of Snowy Mountain
Oh how I wonder those days to come back so I could watch these serials all over again.
I can remember Ye Jo Hai Zindagi with Shafi Inamdar, Swaroop Sampat, Rajni etc.
BTW Avik, the serial you are talking about with 4 kids who solve crimes is Ek Do Teen Chaar. The song went “Charo milke saath chale to kar de ek chamatkar…ek do teen chaar”.
I loved Dada Dadi ki Kahaniyaan on Sunday afternoons and Vikram Aur Betaal on Saturday evenings. They also showed some feature films specially made for kids on DD. Those were a special treat always.
There are so many others like Mullah Naseeruddin, Famous Five, Disney hour, Mungerilal ke Haseen Sapne, Daane Anar Ke etc etc.
I just wish I could get any of these on a VCD or something.
great job yaar……
i used 2 watch… himgiri ka veer, i dream of jeannie, all kungfu programmes on HOMETV, stone boy, malgudi days, …..
loved those days…….
cant we watch them again?
Hi friends,
really very nostalgic,
i still remembers few serials, SIGMA based on space attack, then there was tera panne, one more serial is there, i dont remember the name but Shekhar kapur was the anchor i think, and the hero of the serial he gets a lamp (just like aladin chirag) and one mr. yakha appears before him, to fulfill his wishes, if anyone knows please recollect the name of the serial. perhaps, some regular serials which i remembers are neem ka ped, palash ke phool, rathchakra, some marathi serials such as dwidha, ginipig, ek shunya shunya, dhananjay, chal navachi wachal vasti, etc.
above all the most enjoyed dds chitrahar, rangoli and chayageet,
hi
I used to watch the Sony tv serials
I still remember the intro like “Yeh hai Sony Networl Aur aap dekh rahe hai Sony Channel” ha ha funn
& that Philips Top Ten the first ever countdown show on Indian Television ….awesome

required dvd for Phir Wahi Talash , a TV Seriak mid 80-90
full2faltu has a very good list but I missed some serials related to School/College life the most.
Perhaps Avik is looking for “EK DO TEEN CHAR”
KATHA SAAGAR had gems from the like of Chekhov et al. Malgudi days is matchless.
Then you had limited quantity, now you have limited quality.
Hi All,
Thank you so much for rekindling my desire to become a child. This forum drove me to an innocent world. A world where TV was more than a family member. The people living around in the next lanes would befriend those who had TV sets. Why? Just because of the long list you all have just discussed so far. Sunday was like a day of Hatim’s feast. We had so much in our plates and beginning with western ones like Star Trek, Jamie and the Magic Torch, Famous Five, Agatha Christie, Sherlock Holmes, The Old Fox, in different time frames, to Hindi ones like Appu aur Pappu, Ek Do Teen Chaar, Rajani, Babaji Ka Biscope, Singhasan Battisi, Waah Janab, Chhote Babu, Trishna, Kachchi Dhoop, Ascharya Deepak, Khazana, Rakshak, Ashish, Akashganda, Nakshatraswami, Lenadena, Aur Bhi Hain Raahein, Chaand Sitaare, Darpan, Kahaan Gaye Wo Log, etc. Sunday had many surprises for the viewers. Then there were detective serials like Barrister Vinod, Karam Chand, Khoj, Adalat, Apradhi Kaun, Jugalbandi, Ankahee to the dramas like Gul Gulshan Gulfaam, Farmaan, Upanyaas, Mahanagar, Buniyaad, Hum Log, Pachpan Khambhe Laal Deewaarein, Satyajit Ray Presents. Then there were feminist serials like Udaan, Rathchakra, Shakti, Thoda sa Aasmaan, Kshitij Ye Nahin. Swayam Siddha, Kuchh Khoya Kuchh Paayaa. Does anybody remember ‘Basera’ in which seasoned comedian Late Mehmood was the main character? He was accompanied by famous Doordarshan veteran Channa Ruparel. How about Mutthi Bhar Sitare? It showed the struggle of those guys who were successful doing many things with almost nothing in their hands. Does anybody remember ‘Subah’? It was serial dedicated to promote a campaign against drug addiction. Kumar Bhatiya playing as Prem Bhargava, Salim Ghouse playing as Bharat Sinha and many others. The serial featured enthusiastic title song by Late R.D.Burman. There were many others that featured drug abuse like Nayee Dishayein, Chunauti, Inkaar (Sequel of Subah) but not could leave impression as Subah did. There were business dramas like Khandaan, Manzil, then comedy serials like Dane Anaar Ke, Waah Janab, Chimanrao, Mamaji, Guni Raam, Ajube, Ye Jo Hai Zindagi, . Senior actress Hema Malini appeared in Terah Panne, and Nupur. The morning transmission service also had many gifts for the viewers. Aankh mein Aankh, Jag Hanse Khud Roye, Tak Dhina Dhin, Jhingur Pehelwaan, Kanjoos Makkhichoos, Ghaploo aur Banta, Saambu, Shahar Chala Kasbe Ko, Ajayabghar etc. The afternoon transmission service was spoilt after Shanti and Swabhimaan stopped playing, however there were serials that ran parallel to these megaserials. Raju aur Udantashtari, Palaash Ke Phool, Teen Varsh. Does anybody know where can one get a VCD of Shrilal Shukla’s Raag Darbaari that showed on friday nights? Apart from that there was Guldasta and Rishtey Naatey with Navin Nischol. There was a serial on doctors and surgeons called Life Line. If I remember, it was the serial Ila Arun made her debut with. It had K.K. Raina also. Bharat Ek Khoj was there with vedic chants followed by hymns in the title song, then there was Bharat Ki Chhap presented by Sohela Kapoor Limaye in which she travelled extensively across the country specially into the forest, rural and tribal areas to seek answers to the religious, social, demographical, genetic questions of what we call the Indian aborigines. Indradhanush was an interesting serial with kids specially in love with it. There was a play ‘Agra Baazar’ actually written by Great Nazeer Akbarabadi ‘The Poet of People’. It was a play directed by Habeeb Tanveer. Then there were serials like Paramveer Chakra, Prahari and Fauji, Samunder, but I think out of all Samunder and Fauji were nice because apart from love towards the motherland they also showed how soldiers actually live their lives. Samunder had a beautiful song : Samunder Ki Haseen Laharon Ke Kaamil Huqmaraan Hain Hum. Nazar Hai Jinki Baam-E-Arsh Par Wo Paasbaan Hain Hum. Watan Ke Zarre Zarre Se Mohabbat Humko Hai Aye Dost. Hai Manzil Jinki Thokar Mein Wo Neele Kaarvaan Hain Hum. There were serials on poets also like Mirza Ghalib, Kahkashan, Amrita and then on musicians like Saadhna. There was a serial called Ek Kahaani that dramatized stories of the Indian writers. Bahadur Shah Zafar was another great serial, yet another were Akbar the Great, The Great Maratha, and The Sword of Tipu Sultaan.
Someone was saying ‘Hawa Meethi Tu Aaja Uttar Se’ It is followed by ‘Toofaan Tu Aaja Re Paschim Se…Chale Aao, Chale Aao Jhatpat Fatfat Aasmaan Se, Meri Nazar Ke Saamne Aise Jhan Jhan Jhan. Aakhon Mein Sapna Hai Rang Biranga, Beta Hai Taaro Dragon Ka. Chale Aao Chale Aao Jhatpat Fatfat Aasmaan Se, Meri Nazar Ke Saamne Aise Jhan Jhan Jhan. It was a serial named ‘Taaro- Ek Dragon Ka Beta’. Just before that there was another animation called ‘Barah Mahine’. It was fantastic. Then there was Fairy Tale Theatre which had dramatized version of English fairy tales.
