It is still raining in Mumbai. The news of the rains is now coming in. Yesterday surprisingly even the internet was short about news about the Mumbai rain. It has been a record rainfall in Mumbai. It has been even the highest in India’s history. The rain was measured at 94.4 centimeters (37.1 inches).
Those stranded in the offices on Tuesday have still no way to reach home and with another prediction about heavy rains in the next 24 hours, it still does not look like a possibility. My colleague’s brother was stranded in CST. He walked 33 Kms from CST to his home in Thane.
The Airport will remain closed for some time. The trains have started to move but not plying for all stations. The power is being restored in phases
The worst hit is the Raigad district. Many people have dies in landslides. Mumbai has come to a standstill. Hopefully the rainfall will be less in the next two days. It might not take much time for the city to bounce back. The army and the navy has been called to rescue and help people.
Stories of people stranded and rescued are coming from all quarters. One amazing story is in Rediff about a double decker bus stranded near Kurla station.. The local people rescued them. The rescue started because of a mail to rediff. These people are the unsung heroes of the disaster. There will be a thousand such heroes who are helping people.
The next few day will see the city limp back top normalcy
